Caroline and Matt first met through their parents on February 19th, 2023. Caroline was pet-sitting a family friend’s dog when they decided to take a walk in the subdivision to get to know each other. They chatted for over three hours, walking all over the neighborhood. After that day, they eagerly began planning when to see each other next.

 

After several weeks of seeing each other, Caroline and Matt went on a date to the Wilde Theatre to watch The Quiet Man (1952). Later that night, in her parents’ driveway, Matt asked Caroline to be his girlfriend to which she responded, “Sure!” with a huge smile on her face. Matt preceded to overthink if "sure" really meant "yes" for the next couple hours. Thankfully, Caroline really did mean yes.

On a vacation to Chicago during the summer of 2026, Matt took Caroline on a picnic to North Avenue Beach overlooking Lake Michigan and the city skyline. Sitting on an outspread blanket, they indulged in sushi and rosé. While they relaxed and chatted, Matt pulled an envelope from his pocket and began reading a handwritten letter. Matt finished reading his letter with a poem and got down on one knee. This time, Caroline made sure to say "yes!" instead of "sure."
